Introducting Etana: a strong voice reinvigorating Reggae and Dance hall

I've been a fan of Etana's music ever since I stumbled across her singles 'People Talk', 'I Am Not Afraid' and 'Reggae' a few years ago while randomly looking for more reggae artists on Youtube. The incredibly strong yet melodic voice delivered equally powerful lyrics that told of the beauty of life and our ability to overcome, to be ourselves and embrace love.

Her album, 'I Rise', is a refreshing and energetic  love letter to life and the spirit of reggae and dance hall. The titular track is empowering, reminding the listener of their inherent strength, imploring us to find freedom and contentment in a chaotic modern world. The peaceful and playful guitar mixed with bursts of brass are all tethered together by Etana's hopeful voice, creating a truly moving and inspiring experience.

Etana's original lyricism and approach to reggae and dance hall is what first attracted me to her music, her ability to spread positivism without ignoring the reality of the world and many people's struggles. With each new release we can see her continued development as an artist of true substance and a philosophical observer of the world. There are few artists that manage this balance, fewer still as musically talented.

If you've forgotten why reggae remains such an important and relevant genre of music, than Etana is the perfect person to reintroduce you.
