G2 defeat North to win ESL Dallas Pro League Championship 3-1
The French side G2 are officially back in form having convincingly taken the championship against fellow finalists: the Danish team North. After recent criticism there is no doubt the French side are in prime condition with all players turning up, particularly CS legends Kenny S and Shox, while newer player Bodyy showed why he is continuing to generate a buzz on the scene.
Map 1- Cache
The first map Cache which was G2's pick was a slow starter but the French side eventually dominated. Despite the Danish side changing up their tactics multiple times they fell to fantastic flanks and a very strong CT side for G2. Continual forces by North made it difficult for them to establish any real momentum though they closed it out closely with G2 edging it 16-13.
Map 2- Cobblestone:
The second map Cobblestone was North's pick, a possibly dangerous one as G2 had such good historic statistics on the map and they showed domination ending the first half 12-3 on the CT side, hvaing kept North's economy in check. The second half began a little better with North picking up a few rounds on their CT side, however despite some good plays by North they were unable to take the second map, G2 countering their plays with seeming ease finishing it out 16-5.
Map 3- Overpass:
North's Konfig managed to turn the pistol to their favour on CT side with an awesome UPS play and then stormed the second round giving North a great start to the map despite being at a two map deficity in the BO5, NBK managed to halt their advance with a beautiful cluth taking it to 3-1. North looked much better as their confidence set in and communication clearly improved with them setting up effective cross-fires and site retakes. At half time absolutely dominating the score board 13-2. Despite looking in dire straits NBK snatched an awesome 3K clutch and then an Ace with a knife included making it 14-4 and giving the French side some hope for the map. Followed by an amazing retake with the AWP by Kenny S that shows why he is one of the world's greatest CS snipers, bringing it to a more reasonable 14-7. With amazing teamwork and map awareness, plus outstanding performances from Kenny with support from a frag hungry Bodyy brought them to 15-14 in one of the most impressive and collected comebacks I've seen at pro level, playing 13 rounds and only dropping two! However finally North managed to edge out the map with a late 5-man A rush.
Map 4- Inferno:
G2 started on the CT side and continually shut down any plays made by North, Shox and Bodyy particularly making some impactful plays: particularly Bodyy on B site and Banana being able to hold the site from varied positions. Completely dominating the first half they finished 13-2 to G2 in a complete reversal of the last map's fortunes. Starting the second half North showed their hunger and frustration wiping out G2 in the pistol round. However, G2 began to bring it back with a convincing eco round giving them momentum at 14-3. Despite Konfig's best efforts throughout Inferno and his attempt at a clutch- causing him to smash the desk disconnecting his monitor- G2 managed to take it to match point at 15-3, making it championship point for the French favourites. Easily finishing out their final round against a disheartened North with no economy to work with.
The match up was worthy with great skills on both teams but G2 showed their cohesion as a unit and ability to remain cool and collected. The crowd and fan favourites it will definitely be a big night in Dallas!
