Interview w/Satellite Citi as they prepare to unleash their new EP Negative Space!

Since first being capitivated by Satellite Citi's first tracks, Rock Bottom and Alive, the US rockers have treated fans to a magnificent and inventive cover of The White Stripe's Blue Orchid and another stellar original single Rootless.

Now the talented duo are back with a new EP Negative Space, an EP with fantastic melodies and vocals, which shows why fans have been following the two piece band since the begining. Inventive drumming, wailing guitar riffs and sweet vocals come together to form an original and emotive musical talent.

I caught up with bandmates Anna Gevorkian and Shaunt Sulahian to find out more about what they've been up to, you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube

Interview:

I absolutely loved your cover of Blue Orchid, are you big The White Stripes fans, and, was it a fun song to put a spin on?

Thank you! We really appreciate the love! We’re both long time fans of The White Stripes. Anna’s first rock show was actually The White Stripes at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. We definitely enjoyed putting our own style into the song and changing the structure up a bit, while still keeping the vibe of the original.

Are there any other tracks you'd like to cover or interepret?

We used to include Muse’s, “Supermassive Black Hole,” in our set, so that might pop back up again, but we don’t plan on recording anymore in the near future since we’re gearing up to release our EP.

Your videos tend to have a lot of stark natural settings, would you say you're music is inspired partially by the natural world and urbanisation?

Definitely! Our upcoming EP is inspired by a wide range of topics including but not limited to nature, spirituality, politics and social issues. We get a little dark but it’s been a tough year for us all.

When does the EP hit and can we expect more music videos?

You may have seen some pictures from our upcoming track “Slow Kill” on social media. We’ve been working on it for quite some time now, as stop-motions can be a tedious process. It features doll versions of us, which is both badass and super weird.

We also just shot a music video for another track off the EP, “Undead,” that deals with a heavier topic. Both videos will be released in the coming months followed by our EP, “Negative Space,” that comes out this Fall.
What's been your favourite part of working on the EP?

One of the most humbling and exciting parts of working on this EP has been working with our producer, Brad Wood (Placebo, Touché Amore, Say Anything, etc...). He’s not only helped us bring these songs to life but we’ve also gained an awesome friend in the process who has shared his wisdom with us along the way.

Who are you guys listening to at the moment, recommend our readers some bangers?

Both of us have absolutely loved the new Royal Blood record. They’ve probably been our new favorite band for the past year.  We’ve also been really into London Grammar, Highly Suspect, Mastodon, and Childish Gambino.

I guess we’re a bit all over the place!
Have you got similar musical influences or do you each bring different tastes to the creative process?

We definitely have a lot of similarities when it comes to our taste in music. However, Shaunt comes from a metal background and Anna comes from a funk/rock background, which we tend to combine when we’re writing music.
Any release dates, gigs or projects we should be keeping an eye out for?

We’re not ready to announce dates just yet but we’ll be releasing a lot of new content in the next couple months including our EP “Negative Space” this Fall. We plan to start gigging in October!

Any shoutouts?

Shout out to all our listeners and friends, who have been supporting us along the way! It’s been a fun year and we can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been working on.
