Review: Sarah Blasko displays her characteristic mastery of emotion and lyricism in first videos from "Depth of Field"

When people say this or that singer-songwriter is undervalued by modern music, I often think of a list of my most beloved artists with a good sized following. Australian artist Sarah Blasko's dulcet blend of blues, electro and indie stylings is among the most recurrent entries on this list. By no means unknown, but certainly undervalued in relation to her talent, I am always pleasantly suprised by her new releases.

With the release of her sixth studio album, Depth of Field, listeners are treated to the sounds of a truly inspired and talented woman confident in her ability to relay deep emotional experience.  As is displayed in the video below, 'Phantom', the first single of the album, Blasko has developed a keen sense of measured release, at times she seems to lose all to the melody before regaining control. Hitting the listener with another profound line of observation or introspection.

The heavier bass lines may be relatively knew to Blasko's work yet they seem to compliment the haunting keys and vocals- driving them forward. While, 'A Shot',  is closer stylistically to her earlier works, there is still this newfound confidence and determination to her lyrical voice. In all I am excited to hear the whole album and glad this great artist is continuing to put out awesome material.
