The Roseanne revival holds onto the magic of it's original run while keeping up with current issues

The rift between Trump supporting Roseanne and her Clinton voting sister Jackie is epically written, a perfectly exectued satire of the partisan zeitgeist of the current times. As Jackie prances about in a "pink pussy hat" and "nasty woman" t-shirt proclaiming the evils of the world and her Trump supporting sister, Roseanne has a fake memorial for the death of her sister. Barr has been vocal on platforms like Twitter and her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel at her disapproval of Clinton's candidacy and support of a more straight shooting administration. However, the show isn't as biased as you might expect, across the family is spectrum of socio-political thinking which may make this the most important sitcom in a while. Roseanne is shown as just as flawed as her more liberal family members, as usual in Roseanne it's not the resolution of conflict but the admission of the normalcy of conflict that makes it individual. As one of Darlene's children shouts in frustration "I hate you, you're ruining my life", John Goodman merely quips, "I saw this movie twenty years ago- still good".

So far we've been treated to two visits to the Conners updated household and both have hit the nail on the head, I'm usually not a big revival person, yet in such divided and murky watered times, it's certainly comforting to have the straight talking yet compassionate dissection of Roseanne back on our screens. The chemistry between John Goodman and Roseanne Barr is still the driving force of the show, they riff off one another with the comfortable ease of iconic comedic duos. Other returning cast members like Sara Gilbert slip back into their roles seamlessly,  while in a cool nod to the alternating filling of the role of Becky by Sarah Chalke and Lecy Goranson, Goranson has returned as Becky but a new character who will have a close relationship to her has been written in for Chalke.

Nobody probably saw Roseanne Barr coming from left-field with zero f#cks and an erudite representation of the current climate, but when you think of it which other American comedian could it have really been?
