Game Review: Plantera is a cute lil' indie clicker game to while away some time

[ DISCLAIMER: I recieved a free key to review this game through Keymailer.]

Foxes chase your chickens, pesky purple crows snatch fruit from trees and gophers and rabbits disrupt your vegetable patch. This is the world of Plantera and you better get clicking if you want to make it in the surrealy cute agricultural world!

Now as is the inherent nature of a clicker game the mechanics are far from complex. You are given guardianship over a patch of land on which you can place crops and livestock from gold you collect by clicking on pretty butterflies, harvesting produce or driving away pests. Clickedy click click: oddly satisfying. Especially at the modest price tag of £1.99!

The two issues I found with the game is firsly the lack of info: a simple mechanic like hovering over an animal or object and being given a name and description would certainly make it a more enjoyable experience. Secondly, and as many steam reviewers have pointed out, after a while you can just kind of let it run, sure there are incentives to drive away pests and harvest more efficiently, but really once established the thrill of development and sense of urgency to maintain your land simply disipates. I mean, look at my level 8 farm with very little input, looks great right?

With a few tweaks, a more mellow soundtrack and perhaps a larger space to maintain this could be one of the best clickers out there. It's no Time Clickers, yet for £1.99 I feel it gives enough satisfaction and the chance to obtain those meaningless yet irresistable steam achievements to be worthwhile if you have the spare change in your steam wallet!
