Review: Satellite Citi's Negative Space is a substantial and arresting debut EP

With their now characteristic combination of energy, talent and love for music, Satellite Citi's debut EP 'Negative Space' is finally here with six fresh new tracks for us to devour. For a year which has seen unprecedented social division their hopeful yet dark stylings seem all too fitting a soundtrack.

The opening track Pyramid is an an energetic call together with an addictive beat and bridge ("New world order/come together") that is more an ear-baracuda than worm, this is a tune you'll keep coming back to.

This is followed up by Slow Kill, a deliciously moody and cathartic track. The delayed harmonies between Shaunt and Anna are wonderfully atmospheric, Shaunt sounds as if he is echoing Anna's voice like a repeating marching call. While lead single Undead has a slightly punky vibe to it that is both empowering and inspiring.

Ghost rocks a slower refrain but is equally powerful, I especially love the arrangement of this track, it has a slightly fragmented style which adds to the sense of falling through worlds. The sense of being thown about by forces is wonderfully mirrored by the lyrics that Anna defiantly sings out with perfect emotion.

The bending notes of penultimate track Collide and ghostly vocals make for a track that speaks to regret or resignation. The Reckoning seals the CD with a disgustingly impressive piece of metal, the track has real drama and power to it. The rises and falls of the guitar are organised in such a way you really feel yourself being drawn along with each note, while the usual stellar harmonies between the duo are the cherry on top. In all this EP is everything I could have wanted from a band I am so excited about, it's a display of technical and creative talent, it's also a glimpse at what awesomeness we can expect in the future.
